An early morning fire destroyed a house under renovations Friday.

Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to the house fire at 3403 Gay Street about 2:00am to find the one-story, wood-framed structure was fully engulfed in flames, according to spokesman Bruce Garner.

CFD Captain Chris Fryar said firefighters had to cut a lock on a gate at the street to gain access to the property.

Since the structure totally involved in flames, the firefighters fought the fire from the outside and to make sure the flames didn't spread to neighboring homes. No injuries were reported.

CFD Battalion Chief David Thompson Jr., said the house was in the process of being renovated and was not occupied.

The house was considered a total loss, with damages estimated at $70,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
