For many people, the word "chlorine" brings to mind thoughts of summertime and hanging out in the pool.

The chlorine we think of in connection with summer fun is usually the chemical compound calcium hypochlorite. That is the chemical created at the Lonza Plant in Bradley County where a chemical fire occurred Wednesday morning.

Calcium hypochlorite is a white solid that can be used in a tablet to treat pool water.

The chemical can actually help keep people healthy if it is used properly. It can destroy germs that are capable of causing numerous health problems like diarrhea and swimmers ear for pool users.
