Walker Co. boosts tourism through new initiative
Some exciting news for adventures across the south was announced Wednesday.
The Walker County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Walker County Government, said they will be launching an initiative called “Walker Rocks” to showcase the unique outdoor activities available in the county.
The initiative focuses on the creation of a new website, WalkerRocks.com. The purpose is to invite more outdoor enthusiasts to explore the environmental wonders of Walker County.
According to a press release from the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, tourism supports 640 jobs and generates over $63 million in revenue for Walker County.
"Walker County has organically developed into a destination for people seeking outdoor adventures,” Lacey Wilson, President of the Walker County Chamber said, "but there is plenty of room for growth."
Along with the launch of the Walker Rocks brand, Wilson revealed plans for the "Walker Rocks Start-up Challenge," a competition to help new recreational, travel or hospitality businesses get started or expand in Walker County. A $5,000 start-up grant will be offered to the winner, funded by a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and Peach State Federal Credit Union.
Applications are available starting June 20 at WalkerRocks.com and are due by August 20th.
