18-year-old Spring City Commissioner resigns, citing college schedule and ailing grandmother
Hufstetler won his seat in August as one of the city's youngest elected officials.
Spring City Commissioner Bailey Hufstetler, 18, has resigned from his position.
Mayor Billy Ray Patton read his official letter of resignation at Thursday’s commission meeting.
Hufstetler won his seat in August. He tells Channel 3 that his resignation is due to being a full time college student, working at the college, and taking care of his grandmother who has Alzheimers Disease.
His resignation is effective immediately.
Hufstetler said it’s been a good experience and he will hopefully be able to run for office again in the future, and he thanks the community for their support.
It's unclear how or when Hufstetler's seat will be filled.
