Summer has arrived with 90 degree heat, which means pools will be opening across the Chattanooga area.

The Salvation Army's East Lake Center opened their pool on Tuesday due to rising temperatures in the community. Tuesday was the first day children could turn in their permission forms and swim a while.

“We are happy to provide this opportunity to cool off and have fun, especially since it’s the only public swimming pool in this area of town,” states Lt. Ruth Cancia.   “It looks like it will be a very busy summer.  There were a few times yesterday with just over 100 children in the water already!”

The community swim hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 1 p.m. to  6 p.m.

The Salvation Army relies on donations from the community to run its summer programs like the center’s pool.  If you would like to help, donate to or 822 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN 37403.
