New Orleans Saints pick Vonn Bell in second round of NFL Draft
Former Ridgeland star, Ohio State All-American Vonn Bell was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2nd round with the 61st pick overall.
Former Ridgeland star and Ohio State All-American, Vonn Bell, was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the 2nd round as the 61st pick overall.
It was Saints Head Coach Sean Payton on the phone shortly after 9pm on Friday night informing Bell who said, "they worked me out at the pro day, we had dinner together, me and Coach Payton had texted, I talked to him a couple of times and he said he wanted to take me with his pick so, I believed in him. I knew he was the guy for me. I said, let's go to work."
Bell celebrated the news Friday night with close friends and family members in North Chattanooga. He figured he would have been celebrating a little earlier than the 61st pick but says it all worked out, "it's very hard you see guys going in front of you that you think you're better than those guys but they're great players too. Their coaching staff saw something in them. I'm at the right place here. God has a plan for me and my family. I'm blessed."
Channel 3 sports director Paul Shahen and sports reporter Jill Jelnick were with Bell as he awaited his pro football destiny.
