New upgrades are coming to the Hamilton County Jail.

The jail introduced the newest addition to its facility Wednesday, commissary kiosks.

The kiosks will provide inmates with commissary service and other vending services to the jail.

Inmates will also be able to submit request forms and grievances via the kiosk.

Jail staff says the new technology saves manpower and will relieve some stress between inmates and staff.

Sheriff Jim Hammond, Hamilton County, "We think this will speed up the process for us in the jail. It'll be cost-saving and man hours ... what these prisoners need."

A total of 72 wall-mounted and portable kiosks will be put up throughout the jail.

The new addition of kiosks is the result of Tennessee law requiring the jail to implement the new program.
