The Georgia Department of Labor has released state unemployment numbers for April.

State-wide, Georgia's unemployment rate has declined slightly in April to 8.1%, down from March's 8.3% The rate in April, 2012 was 9.0%

While Athens remained the state's lowest unemployment rate, with 5.6%, Dalton's unemployment rate was 10.2% for April, down from the March number of 10.3%.

The rate declined as the number of jobs in metro Dalton increased by 300 to 63,400, up from 63,100 in March.

Most of the growth came in the manufacturing of textile mill products, retail trade, and professional and business services. Over-the-year, metro Dalton has lost 500 jobs, mostly in textiles.

Georgia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 8.2%, down from 8.4% in March. The rate was 9.1% in April a year ago.
