(WRCB) -- The Hamilton County Commission approved a request by Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger for emergency funding for road repairs Thursday.

The request for up to $500,000 for emergency work on the W Road, which is in the middle stages of a major re-construction project, is to address the soil/rockfall mitigation above the roadway, and soil stabilization along the roadside from a mudslide this past weekend.

The 121-old roadway needs the emergency repair work about 1,000 feet below the current W Road repair work and is not related to that repair.

The new area involved is  nearly 130 feet long. The additional work will be performed at the same time as the existing project, and shouldn't impact the expected re-opening of the W Road in July.
