WASHINGTON (News Sentinel) -- U.S. Sen. Bob Corker has a new golfing buddy: President Barack Obama.

The White House said Monday that Obama is playing golf in Washington this afternoon with the Chattanooga Republican and two other U.S. senators Saxby Chambliss, R-GA, and Mark Udall, D-CO.

The golfing party arrived at the first green at Andrews Air Force Base around 1:20 p.m., where the game began under overcast skies. Reporters at the scene said Obama and Corker stood together and chatted as Udall and Chambliss took putts.

"With the major fiscal issues our country is facing, not to mention foreign relations issues around the world, anytime you can get the president's ear for a few hours, I think that's a good thing," Corker said in a statement released by his office.
