HAMILTON COUNTY, TN. (WRCB) -- After almost seven months of investigating vandalism and arson at Loftis Middle School, arrests have been made.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday, they charged two juveniles.

The suspects are accused breaking into the school early in the morning on September 12, stealing electronics and attempting to set several fires.

Their charges include aggravated burglary, arson, reckless endangerment and vandalism.

On Friday officers said in press conference this was not a random act and the two in custody are not associated with Loftis Middle School, rather it was a crime of opportunity.

The school had to be shut down for days after the incident. School officials thanked authorities for their hard work.

Sheriff Jim Hammond says crimes against a school and, or children cannot go unpunished.

"It was a significant event because it did involve our children, our school, the very principals which we try to protect those children and have a place for them to be educated," Hammond says.

Investigators say more charges could follow.
