Alabama marijuana search grows
DELAKB COUNTY, AL (WRCB) -- DeKalb County Drug Task Force agents, deputies and state officers used a combined ground and air search Tuesday for marijuana plants growing in DeKalb County, and spotted several plants near a residence on County Road 179. Agents on the ground discovered a grow operation and processed marijuana in a residence and seized 72 plants. Some of the plants exceeded 6 feet in height, with a value of $144,000.00.
A further search of the residence resulted in discovery of large bags of marijuana, which had been harvested and dried. Additional bag were found in several places within the residence. Arrested were 55 year-old Johnny Ray Wright and Linda R. Gibbs, age 63. Five firearms and approximately two pounds of marijuana were confiscated from Wright's residence. Agents took several pounds of marijuana to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for testing.
Both Gibbs and Wright were taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center where they were booked in on charges of trafficking in cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
