Gardenhire holds 40-vote lead over Vital in State Senate race
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)- Tennessee's District 10 Republican State Senate Race is down to the wire. With all precincts reporting from Hamilton and Bradley counties, Todd Gardenhire is leading Greg Vital by a margin of forty votes: 8,020 for Gardenhire, and 7,980 for Vital.
As of Friday afternoon, election officials in both counties indicated there were fewer than ten provisional ballots that had yet to be verified. Unless there are erroneous vote totals found in potential recounts, Gardenhire appears to have enough to votes to claim victory. Early Friday, Gardenhire's total increased by 25 votes when an error was discovered in the Eastdale voting precinct in Chattanooga.
The eventual winner, when officially certified, will face Democratic nominee Andrae McGary in the November general election. The seat is currently held by Andy Berke, who did not seek another term.
