POLK COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -- A forest fire that began Friday in Polk County due to downed power lines has now been 100% contained, with mop-up operations continuing today.

Located in the Ocoee Ranger District north of Parksville Lake, the fire utilized approximately 100 personnel from the US Forest Service, Tennessee Division of Forestry, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and Tennessee State Parks Department.

Firefighters are being aided by three water-dropping helicopters and two bulldozers.

The prolonged hot and dry conditions combined with extremely steep and rugged terrain result in difficult conditions for firefighters.

The fire area received approximately one-quarter inch of rainfall Monday night.
