CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- Saturday, Chattanooga's own Bessie Smith was honored with a name plate on the Walnut Street Bridge.

The soulful singer was added to the numerous nameplates already on the bridge.

Each one honors someone who helped shaped the history of the Scenic City.

Some of the names include Adolph Ochs, who established the Chattanooga Times newspaper.

He later established the New York Times.

Actor Samuel L. Jackson, who has been in countless movies, can also be found.

The latest person to have his name added to the bridge was actor Leslie Jordan.
