Chattanooga becomes sister city to Wolfsburg, Germany
CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The Scenic City is getting a new sister.
City officials from Chattanooga and Wolfsburg gathered in Chattanooga's City Hall Monday morning to sign a diplomatic agreement, officially becoming sister cities.
The Lower Saxony city is the home of the Volkswagen headquarters.
The delegation from Wolfsburg was led by the city's Lord Mayor, Prof. Rolf Schnellecke.
Chattanooga is already a sister city to another German city, Hamm, in North Rhine-Westphalia – in the western part of Germany.
Chattanooga's other sister cities include: Nizhnii Tagil, Russia; Givatayiml, Israel; Wuxi, China; Gangnueng, South Korea.
According to the Chattanooga Sister Cities Association, the sister cities program was developed und the Eisenhower administration to build formal partnerships with international cities to exchange information and ideas to build friendships and develop cultural understanding.
