CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- More families in the Tennessee Valley will have a comfortable place to sleep, thanks to a donation at the Chattanooga Furniture Bank.

The Furniture Bank got a hefty donation Thursday, 25 mattresses from Murmaid Mattress.

Thanks to a partnership, when someone buys a new mattress from Murmaid, the company drops off old ones at the Furniture Bank.

The Furniture Bank helps families make the transition from homelessness to permanent housing.

They operate on donations from the public and the need right now is great.

"We had 70 people on the waiting list ... by the end of the year it would be 300 or more," says John Hayes with the Furniture Bank.

That's since march, and the vast majority are families, which translates to about 600 people who need beds.

If you want to donate to the Furniture Bank, you can drop off any items at their location on East 11th Street.

They don't have a delivery truck of their own, but will work with you to schedule a pick-up.

If you would like to donate a mattress call 757-9527.

If you are in need of a mattress or other furniture call 211.
