CHATTANOOGA (WRCB)-- The holidays are right around the corner and a group of Chattanoogans are hoping to make them a little warmer for soldiers over seas.

Volunteers spent part of Sunday collecting items at the Chattanooga Market for the 212th Transportation Unit.

The local unit of about 170 reservists deployed in April to help transport items to units in Afghanistan.

The unit's family readiness group is working to send care packages to each soldier.

Shannon Asher, president of the local family readiness group, says, "I think it warms their hearts and their spirits that so many people care and appreciate what they are doing."
