CLEVELAND, BRADLEY COUNTY (WRCB) – Eyewitness News has learned a young man from Cleveland died while whitewater rafting in West Virginia.

Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Hanes was a graduate of Cleveland High School.

Officials say he was rafting the Gauley River on Monday, when he was thrown from the boat.

Crews located his body late Tuesday afternoon.

We're told Hanes was an experienced whitewater guide who had worked on the Ocoee.

He was in West Virginia rafting on vacation.
