Tennessee agency releases ID of man killed by Memphis police
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of a 20-year-old man killed by Memphis police.
News outlets report the TBI says Abdoulaye Thiam was killed Wednesday by three police officers responding to a domestic disturbance. The TBI says a preliminary investigation indicates that Thiam was armed with a knife and rushed at officers, who shot him.
Thiam died at the scene. No officers were wounded. Memphis police say video was recorded by each officer's body camera. The officers have been relieved of duty pending the TBI's investigation. Authorities haven't released their identities.
The TBI also is investigating the shooting of 42-year-old Andre Horton, who was killed in December by police responding to a report of an armed man. Horton's weapon was later determined to be a BB gun.
