Hamilton County school officials say a night program student at Brainerd High has been arrested for having a gun on campus Friday afternoon.

School system spokesperson Tim Hensley says the school resource officer saw the gun when the student dropped it in the parking lot.

The SRO quickly took the student into custody. Chattanooga police say a second gun was found on the student.

Hensley says it's unclear why the student brought a gun to school.

Hensley says the Brainerd High basketball game against Tyner that was scheduled for December 14, will be rescheduled to a date in January.

Chattanooga police say the student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school premises, disorderly conduct, two counts of aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
