UPDATE: Sources say UTC's Arth set to interview for Akron job
UPDATE: Chattanooga Mocs Head Football Coach Tom Arth's name remains linked to the Akron head coaching vacancy and according to sources the two sides are set to meet this week.
Sources tell Channel 3 that Arth will officially interview for the Akron job on Friday Dec. 14.
We reported last week that sources were saying Akron planned to interview Arth last Friday, the 7th, that didn't happen. Instead they are to officially meet for an interview this week.
To reiterate, Arth grew up less an hour away, he played and coached just down the road from Akron at John Carroll University.
Arth signed a 5-year contract in December of 2016. In two years at UTC under Arth the Mocs are 9-13. They started 2018 4-0 but finished 6-5 overall.
PREVIOUS STORY: Sources tell Channel 3 Sports that The University of Akron is courting UTC Head Football Coach Tom Arth, hoping he will take a position on Akron’s staff.
The move would get Arth closer to home. Arth played and coached for John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, less than an hour drive from The University of Akron. Arth also grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, which also nearby.
Channel 3 Sports reached out to UTC’s Athletic Department for comment. A spokesperson said, “per policy we do not comment on coaching searches.”
Arth was named head coach at UTC in December 2016.
Multiple sources have told Sports Director Paul Shahen that Arth will interview with Akron on Friday.
