In Dalton, Brookwood Elementary fifth graders are finding ways to solve hunger issues right in their own community.  Through their STEM project under the leadership of Eco-researcher Carmen Flaminni, the students are trying to find ways to win the battle of hunger that affect so many families and communities.

After receiving a grant from the Dalton Education Foundation, they purchased the supplies and began their task.  The students created an organic 5 bean soup recipe that will feed a family of four.  The students measured and calculated 50 bags using an assembly line and applied their math skills.  They even designed packages in Art class.

The students wanted to feed the belly and also the soul so each soup package was accompanied with a note of encouragement.  The students will continue on their humanitarian mission to help other local organizations and also raise funds to expand their research program.
