Ooltewah High School student arrested for making threats on social media
An Ooltewah High School student has been arrested for making threats on social media.
Hamilton County Sheriff's deputies were called to a home Thursday evening to investigate a perceived, generalized threat made towards OHS students. The threat was made using an anonymous Instagram account.
Detectives determined that a male student was responsible for the threat.
During their investigation, detectives determined that the student had no means of following through with the threat.
The student was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center. He was charged with making false reports.
"The HCSO makes an effort to investigate any threat, real or hoaxed, especially those directed towards the safety and welfare of our children," an HCSO spokesperson said. "Each threat is taken as serious and criminal charges str typically considered when these type of incidents occur due to the potential of public alarm and disruption to normal school activities."
