People protest Trump's pick for interim attorney general
Protesters who gathered at Miller Park don't like the President's choice of Matt Whitaker as interim attorney general.
"I think it's important that in East Tennessee, in Chattanooga particular and the surrounding area, come out and be a part of this nationwide event,” Attorney Kate Sheetzhodge says.
They say Whitaker isn’t qualified for the job.
A spokeswoman from the Department of Justice said Whitaker will immediately oversee Robert Mueller's investigation of Russia's interference in the 2016 election.
Whitaker is one of the biggest critics of the Russia Probe and has said multiple times he would defund it, putting the investigation to an end.
Sheetzhodge says Whitaker should not be a part of the Russia investigation.
"Whitaker should recuse himself from the Russia investigation. He's expressed his very firm opinions on it already and he is not an independent leader of it,” Sheetzhodge says.
Derek Giamundo helped organize the protest.
They want the next attorney general to be independent and not politically motivated.
"It is specifically focused on making sure that we have a legal system representing the public and not people in power," Giamundo says.
President Trump is interviewing candidates and hasn't said when he'll name his choice for attorney general.
