Open enrollment for Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act health insurance starts today.

"Enroll the Region" volunteers are offering free assistance for those who need to sign up for insurance.

This healthcare enrollment period for Obamacare is open for 45 days.

If you are uninsured, under-insured, or using TennCare, volunteers are prepared to help you.

Since 2013, Enroll the Region has helped people in the Tennessee Valley get health insurance for their families.

The goal is to have everyone live a healthy life.

“From Alabama and Georgia because a lot of them work here. While they're here it's convenient. So we enroll them,” Everlena Holmes said.

Doctor Everlena Holmes is the executive director for Enroll the Region.

She says volunteers are trained to go through the entire federal healthcare process.

Holmes encourages everyone to be prepared when they come in.

“All of the names of the individuals, birthday, social security numbers, salary for that to the household, and that will be included on your income tax,” Holmes said.

Holmes says even if you are unemployed, you can still see a volunteer about getting coverage.

She says her volunteers aim to educate all of their clients.

“What does insurance offers? Why they need the insurance? How you go about selecting an insurance,” Holmes added.

Holmes says people can visit 10 locations to get help, and there's one location for those who speak Spanish.

She says having designated locations in every community helps increase enrollment.

“Try to get them closer to where they're located, and we have set up her sisters all around the county,” said Holmes.

Eleven Enroll the Region volunteers will be placed in community centers throughout Hamilton County.
