Crime Stoppers: Man with gun in umbrella robs ice cream shop
Our case, this week, takes a few odd twists and turns. The 'where' and the 'what' may surprise you but, as always, we promise a reward for good information.
Maybe our suspect was prepared for the weather, maybe he picked it up outside, but in the pictures from security video you will see he's carrying a red umbrella, and police say that is where this guy was hiding a gun. It was late September, late in the evening at the Baskin-Robbins on Highway 58 when he entered the store.
"He had an umbrella and he demanded cash," Chattanooga Police Sgt. Victor Miller explained. "When the clerk was somewhat apprehensive about giving the money, he opened the umbrella and inside the umbrella he did have a firearm."
The clerk smartly complied and no one was injured, but he left you with a chance to profit from his misdeed.
"The suspect is described as a black male that's wearing black clothing and is wearing a white Alabama hat," said Miller. "The pictures aren't the best. He does have the hat on which covers most of his face, but we do try to provide some angles where you should be able to identify who the suspect is."
When he got what he wanted, he ran away.
"So, we believe that he lives somewhere in the Highway 58 or Oakwood area," Sgt. Miller added.
Whether you recognize this guy because you have see him walking around in the area, or you know him because you are related to him, we want to hear from you. Up to $1,000 reward cash is waiting. The Crime Stoppers program is anonymous, so no one will ever know you called.
"A lot of times we get friends and family members that call in, provide information," said Miller, "and their friends and family never find out that they are the one that helped solve the crime."
If you can help, you will be rewarded and you may stop the next crime from happening. Lives always hang in the balance when a firearm is involved.
