A community block party brought Eastdale neighbors together Saturday.

It included plenty of family fun events including food, hula hooping and a basketball contest.

City Councilwoman Demetrius Coonrod, who represents the area, told Channel 3 positive neighborhood events like this help the community.

"It's very important you've got the opportunity to get to know your neighbors and get rid of that fear factor because that's what's important when you have a community that is constantly talked about that is crime and all this negative activity is taking place," Councilwoman Coonrad said. "So when you have positive things taking place, it's important that the community come out and take advantage of that and be supportive of everybody."

A neighborhood association paid for the event.
