CPD: Witnesses say argument led to Museum St. shooting, suspect arrested
Chattanooga Police have arrested a man they say shot another man Friday night.
Officers were called to the 2000 block of Museum Street just after 10:30 pm. They found a man who had been shot in the abdomen. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he is in critical condition.
The suspect, Shernard Stewart, Jr., was detained at the scene.
Witnesses told police the victim and suspect were arguing before the shooting occurred. They also said the victim was not armed.
Stewart said he had been arguing with the victim and confessed to shooting him. He said he shot the victim because he charged at him, according to the arrest affidavit. Stewart confirmed the victim did not have a weapon.
He was arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail on a charge of attempted murder.
Investigators with the Violent Crimes Bureau investigated the shooting.
