For the 2018 Christmas season, Chattanooga Area military organizations are joining forces with the Civil Air Patrol to ensure that a wreath is placed on each of the gravestones at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The holidays are a few months away, but one organization is already thinking ahead. Wreaths Across America kicked off their annual campaign at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

There are 43,000 graves at the Chattanooga National Cemetery. This year's goal is to have a wreath on every plot for the holidays.

Officials said it is often a misconception a wreath is placed on every grave marker at the National Cemetery. But that's not the case. Only 10,000 plots received wreaths last year.

“How do you choose which grave do you put a wreath on. That just didn't seem right. We should all come together within the community to make sure each gravestone has a wreath on it,” said Captain with the US Navy Mickey McCamish.

The placement of these wreaths will take place on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at noon.
