The Tennessee Lottery is reporting record sales from last year.

Lottery officials say they’ll be able to give more money to educational programs across the state.

The Tennessee Lottery’s gross total sales last fiscal year was $1.7 billion. Nearly $422 million will go toward education, 9% more than the previous year, according to lottery officials.

Tennessee started its lottery in 2004 with proceeds going to scholarships, education grants and funding after school care programs. Lottery officials say it has generated more than $4.6 billion dollars for education in the state.
