Green Cove Store and Lodge is located in Cherokee National Forest alongside the Tellico River. Built over fifty years ago, the facility has been under new management since January.

"We live down the mountain,” says co-owner Sarah Philpott. “We are local, and we saw an opportunity to carry on the tradition of Green Cove."

The store is one of only a few in the entire Cherokee National Forest. They offer anything for fishing licenses and tackle to snacks and cold beverages. Green Cove also offers 27-riverfront rooms.

"We like to say that our accommodations a simple but our surroundings are simply amazing,” says Philpott. “You can find affordable, simple clean rooms where your back deck is literally on the Tellico River."

Green Cove caters to the outdoor enthusiasts. They’re located just 10 miles from Bald River Falls and only 1.3 miles from the Benton MacKaye Trail, a 300-mile trail named in honor of Benton MacKaye, the founder of the Appalachian Trail. Of course, there are several other hiking excursions and beautiful drives along the Cherohala Skyway.

There is no wi-fi in the area, nor reliable cell phone service. Green Cove is designed to take you back to a simpler time.

"We have bald eagles here, we have of course the trout,” says Philpott. “We have a bear that roams around at times and people truly come to get away from it all."
