The state also is near the bottom for registration. Data from the 2014 midterm shows that Tennessee was 40th in voter registration, and it also shows that the state ranked 50th for voter turnout with just 28 percent.

Pew's data is based on responses to the U.S. Census Bureau's Voting and Registration Department.
