UPDATE: Suspect in early Saturday stabbing arrested, CPD investigating
UPDATE: Chattanooga police are investigating a stabbing at Diamond Billiards Club in the 3600 block of Hixson Pike.
It happened just before 2:30 Saturday morning.
Dispatch said they received multiple calls of a person stabbed shortly after it happened.
The victim was stabbed multiple times and has life-threatening injuries, according to CPD.
CPD watched surveillance footage that showed the victim get into a physical fight with a man on the sidewalk just outside the front door. The officer explained that the video quality was low, so he could not provide details about what happened, according to the arrest affidavit.
The suspect, Jamal Dewon Strickland, contacted dispatch saying he wanted to turn himself in, the affidavit explained.
Strickland told officers, according to the arrest report, during an interview that there he had been in an argument with the victim inside the Diamond Billards Club. He said the victim went outside. Strickland went out too after a brief moment. The two began arguing again. Strickland said the victim came up to him on the sidewalk. During this time, Strickland pulled out his pocket knife. He said the victim balled up his fists and swung once. Strickland said he avoided being hit, and then he "hit" the victim two or three times with his knife. He said he then fled and later called police.
Strickland was booked into the Hamilton County Jail. His bond is set at $50,000.
