After ten years on the run, an East Tennessee fugitive is finally behind bars.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Sweetwater Police Department teamed up with other agencies to arrest Christopher A. Greene.

In September 2007, TBI agents began investigating the theft of money from the evidence room at the Sweetwater Police Department. Agents found information that led them to Greene, who was employed as a police officer at the time of the theft.

In 2008, Greene was indicted by a Monroe County Grand Jury on a charge of theft over $10,000. A TBI spokesperson explained that, "agents developed information that he had left the country and was possibly living in Central America."

Greene was found in Panama last week by authorities who alerted the U.S. Marshals Service. Greene was brought back to the U.S. Friday and then transported back to Tennessee.

Greene was booked into the Monroe County Jail on a $100,000.
