A Chattanooga mother is behind bars after police say she burned her child with a cigarette.

Kailen Marie McCorkle, 25, was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse.

Saturday, officers responded to a child abuse call and spoke with a woman who said the child had burn marks on her hand. The woman explained that she McCorkle said the marks were just boils.

The woman told officers that McCorkle is heavy methamphetamine and cocaine user.

The child was taken to an area hospital where a doctor said the marks were burns from a cigarette.

A warrant was issued for McCorkle's arrest. She is now in the Hamilton County Jail on a $60,000 bond.

Her court date is set for August 6 at 8:30 am.
