UPDATE: Arrest in Chattanooga's 33rd homicide of 2017

UPDATE:    Chattanooga police have arrested  man in connection to the  homicide of Evan Derry.

Police say Terrance Lewis is charged with Criminal Homicide and Especially Aggravated Robbery.

The suspect is now in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.


PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga Police are investigating the city's 33rd homicide of the year. Police said 20-year-old Evan Derry was killed Thursday night on North Bishop Drive, near Bonny Oaks Drive.

Neighbors said they called 911 after seeing a suspicious man hanging around, but before cops were able to respond, neighbors said they heard seven gunshots.

Yellow caution tape is a painful reminder to the Haynes family about what happened late Thursday night in their neighborhood.

For the most part it is pretty peaceful around here,” Christian Haynes said.

Christian Haynes' family lives on the road where the shots were fired.

Just heard there were several shots just across the hill," Haynes said. "They were all freaking out over it.

Around 9:00 pm Thursday, officers found a wrecked truck, near a ditch, on North Bishop Drive.  It's where they also found 20-year-old Evan Derry unresponsive in the front seat with a gunshot wound.

You don't hear about things like that happening around here too often," Haynes said.

It's the latest homicide for 2017. With no suspect information released, it's unnerving for many living on this street.

Makes me worried about the neighborhood and what direction it is going," Haynes said. "Something to be pretty worried about.

PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga Police Department confirm 20-year-old Evan Derry has died after a shooting on N. Bishop Drive.

Police say Derry was found unresponsive in the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Chattanooga Police Department is investigating a shooting on the 7600 block of North Bishop Drive.

Police received a call about a person shot around 9:00 pm Thursday.

According to a CPD spokesperson, at least one person was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
