CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: Chattanooga police are searching for a man accused of raping a woman inside her North Shore home. It happened early Saturday morning while the woman was sleeping.

Police say the victim and the attacker did not know one another. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident.

Police are increasing patrols in the North Shore area. Officers have been given the ‘OK’ to legally stop any suspicious person who may be in the area.

It's a warning to the suspect: Chattanooga police will not tolerate this type of behavior in our community.

The alleged rape happened around 7:30 Saturday morning. Investigators aren't sure who the attacker is. He's believed to be a white or Hispanic male.

Police said the man entered through a window, raped the woman while she was sleeping, and then fled.

Police released limited information about the attack citing their department policy on sexual assaults, saying the limited information was being shared “so our community can be alert and aware of the actions which took place.”

A spokesperson would not tell Channel 3 what street the rape took place on or if DNA evidence was collected. He said no other rapes have been reported in the North Shore area over the last year.

Police canvassed the area after the report and talked with neighbors, looking for leads.
