Southern Adventist University begins production of a feature film in Chattanooga
The students and faculty of Southern Adventist University’s School of Visual Art and Design have begun production on a feature film titled Belly of the Whale. With students taking part in every aspect of production, the project gives them valuable hands-on training and real-life career experience.
“Students are getting so much out of this project,” said David George, MFA, associate professor and film coordinator at Southern. “It gives them the opportunity to function with greater organization on a larger film set than they can on a smaller set. This bigger piece of work presents challenges, but the students are stepping up to the task.”
George is also the producer of Belly of the Whale, which is written and directed by Nicholas Livanos, MFA, associate film professor at Southern. The film stars Mark Ashworth, an English-born actor based in Atlanta, Georgia, and will be filmed entirely at locations in and around Chattanooga.
One of the School of Visual Art and Design’s previous feature films, Secret of the Cave, received a Heartland Film Festival “Crystal Heart” award.
