OOLTEWAH, TN (WRCB) -

A teenager called 9-1-1 reporting a house fire in Ooltewah Thursday night.

At 8:26 pm, Tri-Communityunity VFD responded to 5204 Village Garden Drive for a potential house fire.

Hamilton County EMS spokeswoman Amy Maxwell says the first units arrived at the scene and didn't see any flames coming from the home.

Firefighters were met by the teenagers in the front yard. They told firefighters that heavy smoke was in the basement.

Maxwell says firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the basement and eventually contained it to one room.

"When our crews entered the room, it appeared the fire had already burned itself out due to lack of oxygen in the room" said Tri-Comm VFD Battalion Chief Jerry Vanderoff.

Chief Vanderoff says the two teenagers were asleep upstairs when they woke up to the smell of smoke throughout the house.

The teens went through the house to find the fire and found heavy smoke in the basement, prompting them to evacuate the home. '

They escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Tri-Community VFD Fire Marshall's Office.

Damages are listed at $10,000.

The parents were not home during the incident, but the family did have insurance.
