UPDATE: A local trucking and logistics company laid off nearly 100 employees nationwide Wednesday.
U.S. Xpress Enterprises, Inc. confirmed the layoffs to Channel 3.
A company spokesperson says most of the employees laid off worked at the company's locations in Chattanooga and Tunnel Hill.
The spokesperson says no drivers were affected by the cuts.
The spokesperson says the reason for the layoffs is a shift in business model.
Danna Bailey, VP for Corporate Communications for U.S. Xpress tells Channel 3:
"Today we made the difficult decision to lay off just over 100 people as part of a shift in company focus. We simply needed to make sure our resources and people match our strategic direction.
For a little background, we have roughly 10,000 total employees throughout the country including professional truck drivers. The majority of the layoffs are taking place in Chattanooga and in Tunnel Hill and are all non-driver positions.
Again, this was a difficult business decision. Our HR department is offering assistance for anyone who would like help in their transition to the job market."
