Two deadly crashes happened within an hour of each other in the Tennessee Valley on Saturday, claiming the lives of two people.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the first one happened just before 5:00 a.m. on Shiloh Road in Meigs County.

A preliminary report shows 47-year-old Melvin McCoy from Decatur was driving north on Shiloh Road on a motorcycle when he ran off the road and hit a tree head-on. State troopers said the driver landed on a barbed wire fence and the impact forced his helmet off.

The other crash happened an hour later on Old Lower River Road Northwest in Bradley County.

The THP said 20-year-old Michael Schirer from Georgetown was driving west on that road when he lost control, went off the road, spun around, and hit a tree. Investigators said he was killed on impact.

The report said he was wearing a seat belt.
