CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

A popular Chattanooga restaurant has closed its doors for good.

Porker’s BBQ on Market Street served its last dish on Friday afternoon.

The owner said he decided to call it quits because he could no longer afford to keep the doors open.

The restaurant opened in 1989 and has been a favorite among locals.

Many famous people have dined at Porker’s through the years including actor Samuel L. Jackson, country singer Josh Turner and President George W. Bush even stopped by during a visit to Chattanooga in 2007.

Customers say many memories have been made at the restaurant and they are sad to see it go.

“I hate to see them leave. I hate to see businesses leaving the downtown area but I guess if you can't afford it or other places put you out of business it just makes it hard on the owner,” said customer Terry Nida.

The restaurant planned to close at 6:00 p.m. on Friday but had to shut the doors a little early because they ran out of food by 3:00 p.m.

The owner says he plans to open a food truck and a catering service in the near future.
