Good Thursday. Expect another scorcher today. The high will reach 95 in Chattanooga with the heat index reaching 101. I was asked recently, "Why should we care about the heat index". Our bodies release heat at different rates with one of the variables being how much moisture (humidity) is in the air. The more moisture in the air, the slower we are able to release heat. This can mean faster onset of heat related illnesses. The heat index is a good gauge of how muggy the air is, and, therefore, how quickly we might succumb to a heat illness.
We have seen a few showers this morning. We can also expect scattered storms this afternoon. The chance from severe weather is extremely low, but be watchful for storms from noon through 6pm.
Friday, a cold front will start working through. It will bring a round of storms to the area during the morning commute. They will taper off, but we can expect another round of showers and storms in the afternoon for your commute home. The risk of severe storms Friday is slight, but 50-60 mph winds and small hail are possible with some of the stronger storms.
The weekend will be amazing. Look for a high of 85 Saturday and 88 Sunday. Humidity will be low, and skies will be mostly sunny both days of the weekend.
