UPDATE: Police found a Chattanooga man shot to death after he crashed his car into a business on Wednesday.
Officers are investigating the circumstances behind the shooting that happened on Wilcox Boulevard.
The damage left by the car has now been covered up. The owners are learning about what happened as they repair the building.
Crime tape is all that's left for this business owner to pick up.
A car crashed into the building that houses Wedgewood Cleaners. It left a hole and bricks on the ground.
"We've been here 40 years. We've never had anything like this happen, so I just think it's one of those things that you never know what's going to happen," Walter Chapman, one of the owners of Wedgewood Cleaners.
Chapman said his brother called and told him what happened.
Police said a man was found inside the car and had been shot several times. He later died.
"I would never want that to happen to anybody. It's a real tragedy, honestly," Chapman said.
Police identified the man who was killed as 39-year-old Desmond Clay. His cousin, Boaz Delaney, said he was an essential part of the family.
"Outside of my brothers and my mother and my wife, that was my best friend. It's hard to explain," Boaz Delaney, the victim's cousin said.
Delaney and other family members are coping with his death. He said Clay was a father to 10 kids and working to turn his life around.
3 Plus You featured him in a segment in June of 2016.
"He was trying to get hisself together. Stopped running the streets, got a job. He was doing things the way he wanted things to be done though," Delaney said.
Reminders of how his cousin died are tough for Delaney to see. He said the family has had other unexpected deaths this year too.
Delaney hopes his message will encourage others to stop the violence.
"For my family, we lost some love. A lot of love. Desmond was a loving person," Delaney said.
One of the owners told Channel 3 they have insurance for the business. They hope it will cover the cost of the damage.
