The Ringgold Tigers missed the playoffs for just the second time in 10 years under head coach Robert Akins in 2016. The double overtime loss to Sonoraville in the play-in game still lingers, but in a good way.
"When you lose like that, it puts a different emotion in you to really succeed the next year. We were way more talented than to go 5-5 last year. We underachieved. We worked a lot on leadership and attitude, those kind of things will help us to overachieve," said Akins.
The Tigers were talented, but young in 2016. They're now talented and experienced. Ringgold has 21 seniors. Quarterback Cole Kibler returns as a junior with a year under his belt and Akins raves about their defense.
A defense that will be tested in week one on August 18th at Northwest Whitfield.
