Whitfield Co. Sheriff wins two awards at Sheriff Training Conference

WHITEFIELD COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood recently returned from the Georgia Sheriffs' Training Conference at Lake Lanier.

At the Youth Home Banquet, Chitwood was presented with two awards, the first for being in the Top 15 Sheriffs for raising money for the Sheriffs’ Youth Homes and the second for being in the $100,000 Club.

“These two awards are considered to be very prestigious among all the sheriffs in the state,” Chitwood said. “When you think of 159 counties in the state, and Whitfield County placed third, it is very pleasing.”

The first award is based on per capita - citizens vs. money raised per county, and the second one is simply raising more than $100,000.

“I am proud, once again, to receive this on behalf of the citizens of Whitfield County that so strongly support the Youth Homes and specifically to the Cherokee Estates campus located here in Dalton,” the sheriff said.

The Cherokee Estates 2017 golf tournament is set for Oct. 20 at Indian Trace Golf Course.
