UPDATE: Vols DE Derek Barnett declares for NFL Draft

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: First team All-American Defensive End, Derek Barnett will skip his final year of eligibility at Tennessee and enter the NFL Draft. 

Barnett broke former Vols Defensive End and NFL Hall of Famer, Reggie White's Tennessee career sacks record (33) in their victory over Nebraska on December 30, 2016. 

Bleacher Reports's Matt Miller says the Nashville native is his 16th overall prospect in the 2017 NFL Draft. 

Barnett isn't the only Vols player to enter the draft, running back, Alvin Kamara, wide receiver Josh Malone have declared as well. 


PREVIOUS STORY: The postseason accolades keep on coming for Vols defensive end, Derek Barnett, he has been named to the 2016 Associated Press All-American first team. 

This isn't the only All-American first team Derek Barnett has made, Sports Illustrated, USA Today Sports, and  Pro Football Focus are some of the others.  Barnett dominated in 2016, he had 50 total tackles, 35 solo, 18 tackles for loss, and 12 sacks for the Vols. 

He is the first Volunteer to make the AP All-American first team since Safety Eric Berry in 2009.

Even though Barnett is a junior, he is projected to be a first round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
