Marion Co. beats Austin East 35-21, advances to 3rd straight state final

Posted: Updated:

Marion County held off a late fourth quarter surge by Austin East to win 35-21 Friday night, advancing to its third straight 2A state final.

The Warriors scored on their first three possessions of the game, starting with Mr. Football finalist, Hunter McClain's rushing touchdown. Shortly after, sophomore quarterback Issah Sampson found Kane Hale in the endzone who out jumped two defenders to come down with the Warriors' second score.

Marion Co. led 35-0 at the half. Roadrunners then put together a rally to make it 35-21 with three minutes left in the game, but a Warriors' interception made it final.

Marion Co. will now face Trezevant in the 2A state final Saturday December 3rd, 12:00 p.m. in Cookeville.
