Hixson family re-located for holidays after fire
Three adults and five children were able to escape the home without injuries.
A Hixson family has been forced to spend Thanksgiving away from their home after a morning fire.
The house fire on Delores Drive in Hixson required efforts from the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department Wednesday morning.
Firefighters arrived at the home and saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the right side of the home, according to Hamilton County EMS spokesperson Amy Maxwell.
The firefighters were able to quickly to contain the fire to the one room.
The homeowner told firefighters that his grandson woke him, telling him the playroom was on fire.
Three adults and five children were able to escape the home without injuries, and fire officials reported damages listed at $3,000. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
The American Red Cross has responded to assist the family of eight with their immediate needs.
